The Louisiana Yambilee Festival

The Louisiana Yambilee Festival began in 1946 to celebrate the year's harvest of yams, or sweet potatoes. This festival occurs every October in Opelousas, LA. The Yambilee Festival includes music, food, a parade, a carnival and a pageant to crown the Yam Queen and King. One of the main reasons for the annual Yambilee Festival is to increase awareness and interest in Louisiana farm produce.
